• Details:  This is an absolutely gorgeous teacup and saucer set with a lot of history behind it, (see below for a brief history about this long-running company).  This set is hand painted by European artisans, and it features roses in pink, magenta and yellow with leaves in various tones of green.  Both pieces have heavy gold all around the painted roses.  The saucer has some scratches and wear in the center from years of use, if it was in better condition it would sell for $160 or more, please see "Condition" below for more details.  Still makes a beautiful addition to your teacup collection.

• Condition: Antique - Used.  Very Good Antique Condition.  There is wear on the saucer center. There is a very faint crack on the underside of the saucer, it does not come through to the front.  (all photographed for you).  There are no chips, or any other areas of concerns, item has been priced accordingly.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.    

Pickard China was founded in 1893 in Wisconsin by Wilder Austin Pickard, originally called Pickard China Studio. They specialized in hand-decorating dessert and tea sets. Pickard assembled a group of men and women china painters, many emigrating from Europe, to create this uniquely American style of hand-painted china. In 1897 they moved to Chicago, IL, many of the original artists were from the Art Institute of Chicago. At first all the porcelain was manufactured in Europe some pieces, such as this one, by the highly esteemed Rosenthal porcelain company in Bavaria, among others. Pickard would import the blank plates and decorate them in their studio.  It wasn't until after 1937, after Wilder Pickard's son Austin Pickard joined the company, that they started to make their own porcelain blanks.  In 1941 Pickard China Company moved to Antioch, Illinois which included a porcelain manufacturing facility.  In 1977, Pickard was selected by the U.S. Department of State to manufacture the official service of china used by American embassies and other diplomatic missions around the world.  They were also selected to produce china for heads of state, corporations, and hotels including: The King of Saudi Arabia, Hilton Hotels, Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, Marriott Corporation, General Motors, the U.S. Air Force, New York's Gracie Mansion, the United Nations, Air Force One, Blair House and Camp David.  They even produced a 3,520-piece State China service, for President Obama, on April 27, 2015.  Pickard has always remained a family run business.
